Promotional items come in all shapes and sizes. Because marketers and advertisers understand the fierce competitiveness in the business world, many take use of promotional items to attract potential consumers to their business. While most promotional items are free, through the use of giveaways, some promotional items are in the form of added incentives to one's purchase or loyalty to a particular company.

Free Promotional Items:

Free gifts are something every consumer loves to obtain. The idea of getting something for nothing, or something for little effort involved is a willing task that every true consumer is willing to partake in. The forms of these free promotional items are dispersed in a variety of ways. Just for inquiring in a company, a person may receive a free promotional item. This can be with no obligation to buy, but instead, just taking a look around. It is during this time that a company would put its best foot forward at actually trying to push for a sale. Some companies seeking exposure may offer one to partake in a survey, in exchange for receiving a free gift. This form of advertising is often one that requires very little effort, in exchange for some valuable gift at no charge. Some promotional items are offered through the participation in third party sponsors, and are often used in interent marketing schemes. This form of offering a promotional item can be both easy and tedious to the consumer.

Still, there are the traditional forms of offering promotional items through giveaways, through use of various venues such as convention halls. Often, these large facilities will host an event to include an abundance of merchants, looking to attract new business, as they use free promotional items as a means to an end. The end being, ultimately making a sale and obtaining business for themselves.

Incentive Promotional Items:

Some promotional items are not necessarily free, yet still very valuable in whole with relation to a particular program in which the consumer engages. Many credit card companies make use of this form of advertising, through the use of cash-back incentives on purchases over some fixed dollar amount.

Credit card companies may also team up with other businesses to further customer loyalty, by offering promotional items exclusively for the loyal consumer. For instance, a person that has been a loyal company of a particular credit card business that travels often can receive frequent flyer miles that as up to a free trip of their choice.

In the end, it is the creativity in the use of promotional items that makes companies stand out from the rest, and ultimately determines how good or bad their consumer base may be.
