We live in a world that is dominated by marketing and advertisement. Everywhere we go, and everywhere we turn we see advertisement and we are bombarded with them. Advertisement is most likely the most popular form of marketing. The traditions of past marketing usually went with a push approach. What that means is that instead of understanding the customer and trying to create value for him or her, instead you push a product onto them by telling them how much they need it. Traditional ways of push marketing always used salesmen to help make the push.

The much better way in launching a marketing campaign is to use the pull approach. A good product is very important but so is how you choose to market and represent that product. To represent your product in a good way, you must understand your demographic very well. The demographic that you choose to market to, must believe your item is different from all the other products that saturated the market. You must understand your competition to make this happen. You need to acknowledge the strength and weaknesses of your competitors and you need to know how to avoid their weaknesses and improve their strengths.

When you launch a marketing campaign you must also be working with the financial sector of the company. A marketing campaign must yield profits in the long run. This can be hard to measure but there can be future value/present value numbers calculated based on research and survey. You can attempt to get a rough estimate of how much the campaign will cost and how much it will increase sales revenue by. It is important that there exists at least a margin of 5% profits to be improved upon. Anything less might not be worth the time and the effort. A good marketing campaign can easily double or even triple profits, of course all of this depends on how saturated the market is and how much your own brand has already broken into a market. A new brand entering a market has a lot more growing potential hence marketing can increase profit margins by quite a bit, however, a product that has been around for a long time most likely would be seeing very tiny improvements in growth. Overall, the way one chooses to market their product can easily turn a product which was going to tank into a golden star.
