Promotional marketing is everywhere and we see it everyday. It is all over the internet in the forms of pop up ads and on the side of internet pages. You can see promotional marketing on the clothes that you wear from the name brand labels to the unique logos that represent each company. For example, the Nike check mark might be one of the most successfully marketed symbols ever among clothing lines. It started as a simple idea by a intern college student and developed into the national brand symbol for Nike, and what did Nike have to pay for it? Absolutely nothing, it was free courtesy of the intern.

Promotional marketing can also be seen at baseball games, basketball games, and even in your own house. There is franchise name printed on just about everything we own. Even books are perfect marketing tools for the author or for a company. Basically anything that helps get you more customers or get your name acknowledge is a form of marketing.

It is important in marketing to understand the value and the importance of item or idea that is being marketed. Otherwise, if the company can't understand its own value how could its customers? It is important to know what is important to your targeted demographic. It is also important to keep your finances in check when you are on a marketing campaign. There are many companies who allow their marketing expenses to exceed the possible returns on the items being marketed.

When the nintendo Wii first arrived on the scene, many people claimed it was the best marketed product of the year. The Wii sold extremely well and was successful over the PS3 and the X-Box 360. This was mainly because of the aggressive marketing campaign put out by Nintendo. In fact, Nintendo won the marketing of the year award in New York City (coming in second place was the bible book by Zonverdan) for their aggressive approach on marketing the Wii. Nintendo knew it's targeted demographic very well, and for the Wii they decided that demographic was everyone. They went above and beyond to convince people that the Wii was not just a video game. It was a hobby that everyone could enjoy. They showed this through their pre marketing methods and post marketing methods. This was the main reason that the Wii sold more consoles than the PS3 and the X-box 360
